How to Choose Wedding Music in Spain: Live Band, Trio or Soloist
Live music or a DJ, soloist or full band, and how the evening is built. A practical guide to choosing wedding music in Spain.
Good live music at a wedding in Spain means guests who dance, sing along and remember the evening for years instead of sitting beside a background speaker. This guide explains how to choose wedding music: which format fits, how a live evening is built hour by hour and what to settle with the venue first. For a booking page rather than a guide, see our wedding band page.
Live music or a DJ at a wedding?
A DJ plays a track, while a live band creates a moment. Vocals in the room, a reaction to the crowd and improvisation to the mood of the guests are things a recording cannot give. At a Ukrainian wedding in Spain, live music also brings back a feeling of home, because familiar songs played live sound completely different.
In short, a band and its equipment from one source is cheaper and more dependable than assembling suppliers separately, and nobody can knock the sound out of sync with the stage in the middle of the first dance.
Band, trio or soloist: which format to pick
We work with the cover bands Royal Band (international hits) and Rock Beat (rock and pop-rock), and we also bring in soloists such as a violinist or a saxophonist for the ceremony or dinner. The format is chosen to match the size of the wedding and the budget.
- A soloist or duo suits a small ceremony, drinks reception or dinner;
- A trio is the middle ground for a banquet;
- A full band suits a big party and dancing into the night.
Each act has its own page: Royal Band, Rock Beat, the violinist and the saxophonist. You can hear the difference between the two bands in Royal Band and Rock Beat compared.

What a live performance includes
- A live band or soloist matched to your format;
- Professional sound for the ceremony and the banquet;
- Lighting for the performance and for the architecture of the venue;
- Staging and a projection screen on request;
- Set-up, tuning and support of the equipment all evening.
Technical details are in a separate guide, What Sound, Lighting and Stage Hire Includes.
What does live music at a wedding in Spain cost?
The price depends on the format, whether a soloist, a trio or a full band, on the length of the performance and on the town. We travel throughout Spain and into southern France, so the distance to the venue is counted separately. We work out the exact figure for your plan: send the date and the town and we come back with a quote the same day. For the wider picture of wedding spending, see How Much a Wedding in Spain Costs.
How long a band plays and how the evening is built
Live music works in sets and not as one continuous flow: 40 to 50 minutes of playing, then a break of 15 to 20. This is not whim on the musicians’ part. Non-stop music tires a room, and the pauses are needed for courses, toasts and plain conversation.
- Ceremony, 30 to 60 minutes: welcoming the guests, the bride’s entrance and the ceremony itself;
- Drinks reception: a background set while guests chat on their feet;
- Banquet: two or three sets with pauses between the courses;
- First dance: a piece agreed in advance, with the sound routed separately;
- Dancing: the main set, once the room is warm.
In the pauses we play background music so the evening does not sag into silence. A full breakdown of timing is in the event planning checklist.
Which repertoire for a mixed room
At a Ukrainian family’s wedding in Spain the tables almost always hold relatives from home alongside Spanish colleagues or neighbours. The scheme that has proved itself looks like this.
- International hits are the base of the evening, understood by everyone;
- Ukrainian songs are for key moments: the first dance, toasts and the peak, and putting them on too early is a mistake, since the room is not yet warm;
- Spanish numbers come closer to night, when everyone is dancing.
The songs you cannot live without are yours to name. Send the list in advance so the musicians have time to prepare arrangements. More on combining traditions is in Ukrainian Wedding Traditions in Spain.
Questions for the venue before you book
A venue’s technical conditions decide which line-up can play there at all, so raise the following before any deposit changes hands.
- The spare electrical capacity, because a full band with lights needs its own line;
- Whether there is a volume restriction and until what hour;
- From what hour the space is open for set-up;
- How the vehicle with the equipment arrives;
- What is planned in case of rain.
The full list is in How to Choose an Event Venue. If you are still choosing a location, send us the options, because we often know their quirks already.
When to hold the wedding
- May to June is the best time for a garden: warm, with long evenings;
- July to August is hot by day, so the programme runs in the evening only, and venues and hotels cost more;
- September to October is, in our view, the best balance: the heat has dropped and prices are below the peak;
- November to April brings cool evenings, which calls for an indoor hall or a heated canopy.
Mind the local festivals too: Alicante lives through Hogueras in June, Valencia has Fallas in March and Málaga its Feria in August.
Where we play in Spain
Alicante is our base, and from there we play in Torrevieja, Benidorm, Elche and the rest of the Costa Blanca, in Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid, in Málaga and Marbella on the Costa del Sol, and in Murcia. See the full list of cities. We bring live music and equipment to any town.
Our share and your share of the preparation
When choosing live music, know not only the repertoire but also what the musicians take on. We handle a sound check ahead of the first guest, an engineer throughout, a firm hold on the timing, a line-up matched to the format and venue, finding out the venue’s technical conditions, the equipment with its installation and, of course, dismantling and removal. Short of power, we come with a generator; if a large van cannot reach the spot, we shuttle the kit in a smaller vehicle.
You handle reserving the venue and getting our access cleared with it, the caterer and the menu, a photographer, your list of essential songs and any video for the screen. Partner contractors can take care of decoration and filming. Signing with the venue is up to you, and we can say what is worth raising with them.
How to order live music for a wedding in Spain
- Message us with the date, the town, the venue, the style of wedding and the approximate headcount;
- We look at the diary and send a quote that same day;
- We ask about the venue: electricity, volume, set-up time and access, and phone them if needed;
- The date is locked in when the venue terms are clear;
- Some weeks before the wedding: the programme, the playlist, the essential tracks and the evening’s timetable;
- On the day: early arrival, installation and a sound check before the guests;
- After the party: dismantling and removal, with nothing for you to clear.
We do not set a deadline for booking live music: write the wedding date, we check whether the musicians are free and reply.
Frequently asked questions
How do I book wedding musicians?
Send the date and the place. We check the diary and reply, whether the date is next year or next week.
Can you play Ukrainian songs?
Yes, Ukrainian numbers sit alongside international hits and Spanish music in the repertoire, and you agree the playlist with us beforehand.
Do I have to book sound and lighting as well?
No. The band brings its own equipment, so the sound and lighting, plus a stage and a screen when needed, are already part of the booking.
Do you travel beyond the Costa Blanca?
Yes, we play all over Spain and also in southern France. The road to distant towns is counted separately.
Can the wedding be planned in English?
Yes, planning can happen in English, and Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian are covered too. A host is the exception: ours speaks Ukrainian and Russian, with Spanish as needed, but not English.
